The Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies (PPS) is recognised internationally as one of the leading Departments for work that focuses on the role of the unconscious mind in mental health, culture and society and the many psychosocial factors which influence our lives.

Duties of the Role

We are now seeking to appoint an energetic Senior Lecturer in the field of Childhood Studies to support and develop this new, innovative programme, incorporating a number of perspectives, including sociological and psychodynamic. You will be teaching on BA Childhood Studies and on other UG and PG programmes where appropriate and contributing to the development of new programmes (e.g. MA Childhood Studies). You will make a significant contribution to the University’s submission to future Research Excellence Framework exercises, publishing research outputs that are rated internationally excellent, and supporting research projects of UG, PGT and PGR students. You will also take up a key senior role in the Department contributing to a lively enabling academic environment.

Skills and qualifications required

The job would suit a qualified and experienced academic with a strong track record in teaching and research related to childhood studies, and a solid understanding of issues involved in direct work with children. You will have a strong track record with evidence of published research of peer-reviewed international quality, and of being able to meet the requirements for the Department’s excellent research submission to the Sociology panel in REF 2021. You will have an energetic and enthusiastic nature with experience of module and programme leadership, and a willingness to work in creative and collaborative ways within PPS and across other departments.

A successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be a well- developed and inspiring lecturer with a commitment to the on-going evaluation and reflection on their own teaching and research practice. They will have a proven capacity in key senior roles in HE and will be a competent administrator of their own work.
